Everyday materials for jewelry-making

One of the things that I like the most about jewelry-making is to create pieces that are totally original and one of a kind. I often oxidize silver, bronze, and copper and add patinas to produce exclusive pairs of earrings, rings, cuffs, or necklaces. I also use everyday household materials like sea salt and fine salt, eggs, water, vinegar, etc. to change colors and/or add texture to a specific piece. The result? Pieces that are always different from each other (and fun to make!)

A unique necklace inspired by waves

Spending many hours following dolphins and whales in the wild, I find inspiration for many of my jewelry pieces when I am out on my research boat. This one of a kind necklace, for example, is inspired by wavelets at sunset. The piece, called “ondine e serpentina”, is handcrafted in bronze and reclaimed silver, and finished with a serpentine gemstone. The chain is made of oxidized silver.

A statement necklace inspired by coral reefs

Coral reefs are some of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. Thousands of species of corals have been discovered in different parts of our oceans. New studies show that these reefs may be able to adapt to moderate climate warming, improving their chance of surviving through the end of this century, only if there are large reductions in carbon dioxide emissions.
